Reviewing for the Albuquerque Journal, Richard S. Dargan found this inconspicuous Northeast Heights strip-mall room, marked only by a sign reading Restaurant, to be the one kitchen in the city devoted entirely to Cuban food. Inside he found embroidered tablecloths and reggaeton, and a concise menu organized by protein with maduros and black beans alongside. The Cuban sandwich is a classic presentation, a baguette pressed around ham, melted white cheese and slow-roasted pork with mustard and pickles. Order that, or the ropa vieja, Cuba's national dish.
Guava Tree Cafe · Nob Hill
A pan-Latin Nob Hill cafe on Richmond Drive whose Cuban sandwich Gil's Thrilling Blog praises in the highest terms, layered with roast pork and pressed to order. The Albuquerque Journal's Richard S. Dargan counts it among the Nob Hill places where Cuban food turns up on the menu. The kitchen also cooks a well-regarded pernil and dishes from across Colombia, El Salvador, and Costa Rica.
