Bob Townsend described 7,000 square feet on a second story above Marietta Street for the Journal-Constitution, an indoor beer hall and an outdoor garden with long communal tables, servers in lederhosen, hand painted murals and a German made model railroad circling the room, plus a tuba band and gigantic glass steins at Oktoberfest. Christiane Lauterbach calls the Bavarian food and German beer here jovial in Atlanta Magazine. Order a stein and a plate of Bavarian food outside. In 2023 the paper put its Oktoberfest specials, costume contests and live music on every Saturday and Sunday through October.
Tucker Brewing Company · Tucker
Christiane Lauterbach wrote in Atlanta Magazine that fans of the Bavarian form should look to this family owned campus, 8,500 square feet built from scratch among Tucker warehouses, a vast expanse of pebbles and newly planted trees overlooked by a bandstand, with games, a sandbox and a few dogs by their owners. Order the TKR Pilsner slow pour under its foam dome, with the giant pretzel and beer cheese or the tangy sauerkraut balls. The taproom opens at 10 a.m. Wednesday through Friday and at noon on the weekend.
The Lost Druid Brewery & Distillery · Avondale Estates
Atlanta Magazine's Christiane Lauterbach lists this Avondale Estates brewery among the few places in the metro that hold to the Bavarian form, singling out the heavy outdoor tables, the German hops and the casual food that goes with them. The brewery's own pages call it a brewery, distillery and gastropub, with a taproom, a mezzanine and an outdoor patio that together hold more than 250 people. Order a German styled pour at one of the heavy tables outside with something simple to eat. The kitchen closes half an hour before the taproom does.
Halfway Crooks Beer · Summerhill
Bob Townsend reported for the Journal-Constitution that co-founders Shawn Bainbridge and Joran Van Ginderachter reopened their renovated HC Biergarten in Summerhill in May, marking it with Czech Beer Days. The taps that month ran to Var, a Czech style pilsner poured filtered and unfiltered, Mavy, a dark Czech lager, a black lager and Deset. Bainbridge said Var was the first Czech style beer they brewed on the pilot system. Order the Var unfiltered in the biergarten.
