The Snowball Stand · Woodstock
Off Route 99 in Woodstock, a Howard County summer fixture since its first season in 1974 and one of two stands here carried by both Baltimore Magazine in 2026 and the Baltimore Sun in 2019. Baltimore Magazine says to gather in the gazebo and to check the rotating flavors of the day chalked on the sign out front. Order blue raspberry, mango or cola. Like every stand here it runs a summer season rather than a year.
The Peggy at The Margaret Cleveland – Gourmet Snowballs · Hamilton-Lauraville
Christopher Heller bought Walther Gardens in Hamilton-Lauraville and renamed its snowball stand after his great-grandmother, keeping what Baltimore Magazine describes as the age-old egg custard recipe and the stand's claim to be the oldest in the country. Flavors are made with pure cane sugar. Order the egg custard, or the candied orange, cookie butter or French raspberry in a pink cup. Seasonal, like the rest.
Ice Queens Snowball Shop · Locust Point
Melanie and Dasia Kabia opened this East Fort Avenue shop in 2020 and Baltimore Magazine reports locals still lining up around the block on warm days. The magazine calls the snowballs fluffy, an homage to the finely shaved ice New Orleans is known for, and says the shop has passed the Charm City test all the same. Order the old-fashioned egg custard, or the Peaches N' Cream or Chocolate-Covered Strawberry. Summer season.
SnOasis · Lutherville-Timonium
A Padonia Road mainstay since 1977, with sand underfoot, which Baltimore Magazine puts forward as the closest thing to a beach that Timonium offers. Just about any flavor under the sun is on the board. Order the multi-colored Rainbow and finish it with the drippy marshmallow or the secret-recipe vanilla topping. The stand keeps a warm-weather season, so it is a summer trip rather than a year-round one.
Opie's Soft Serve & Snowballs · Catonsville
An after-dinner habit in Catonsville, on both Baltimore Magazine's 2026 guide and the Baltimore Sun's 2019 roundup, which is a rarer thing than it sounds on a list of seasonal stands. Flavors run from strawberry to cotton candy. If you cannot decide between a snowball and ice cream, order the Snowcream, which layers soft serve in the middle of the ice and again on top. Seasonal, like the other stands.
