Avoca kicked off Fort Worth's craft coffee craze when it opened on Magnolia Avenue in 2011, before most of the city had a real specialty option. The roastery treats sourcing and brew method as worth explaining, and its three Fort Worth locations, anchored by the Magnolia flagship, remain the reference point other local shops get measured against.

Born in Lakewood in 2005, White Rock roasts in-house and has become one of the city's most reliable destinations for a good cup. Twenty years on it runs eight locations across the Metroplex and added a Brew Lab, a training facility for coffee professionals.

Ascension has run its Design District roastery since 2012, sourcing beans ethically and sustainably enough that the practice is part of the brand. It is now a six-location operation across DFW, known for its espresso drinks and a horchata latte regulars order year-round.

An acclaimed micro-roastery in East Dallas built for people who care about the technical side of coffee, from pour-over ratios to roast profiles. It is a smaller, quieter counterpoint to the bigger chains, aimed at pulling out distinct flavor notes rather than a house-blend consistency.

Palmieri started as a farmers market stand in 2016 before growing into a three-location Italian cafe built around single-origin beans and classic espresso drinks. The traditional Italian format sets it apart from the more experimental shops elsewhere in the city.
