Owner Ernesto Velez runs this small Casa Linda Cuban spot without fusion, importing bread and criollo ham from a Miami bakery every couple of days. The kitchen turns out traditional plates, Cuban coffee, and flan out of a roughly ten-table room, with a full mojito bar and Friday-night music that has kept it packed since it opened.
Zaguan Latin Café & Bakery · Oak Lawn, Dallas
Open in Oak Lawn since 2002, this Latin American cafe and bakery presses its Cuban sandwich panini-style on toasted homemade French bread with pulled pork, ham, Swiss cheese, pickles, and mustard. The bakery case, with pastelitos and Latin sweets, plus arepas and cachapas, makes it as much a bakery stop as a sandwich counter.
