Bishop's Orchards Farm Market & Winery · Guilford center
A sixth-generation Guilford farm, running since 1871, that turns its own orchard fruit into wine. CTbites' vineyards guide highlights specialty fruit wines from on-site peaches, pears, strawberries, raspberries, and blueberries, with daily tastings at the farm market and weekend pours in the Little Red Barn from May through October. Order a flight of the fruit wines, peach or raspberry, or the popular hard apple cider, all made from fruit grown on the property.
Gouveia Vineyards · Whirlwind Hill, Wallingford
A hilltop Wallingford vineyard founded by Joe Gouveia, who was born and raised in Portugal and moved to New Haven at fifteen, building the estate as a gathering place for family and friends. CTbites' vineyards guide notes nine whites and eight reds, including a port, plus a harvest festival and leashed-dog-friendly grounds. Order the port, or one of the whites that reflect Gouveia's Portuguese winemaking roots, and settle in for the view.
Paradise Hills Vineyard & Winery · Rural Wallingford
A Wallingford vineyard the Ruggiero family has farmed since 1997 on a sustainable-growing commitment. CTbites' vineyards guide points to handcrafted, full-bodied wines, live music on Friday and Sunday evenings, and a running wine book club called Read Between the Wines. Order one of the full-bodied estate reds in the Tuscan-style tasting room with its hand-crafted copper bar.
