Ian McNulty wrote in The Times-Picayune that this Mid-City bar was designed and built from the ground up to embrace the beer garden trend, with mid size live oaks rising between ranks of long narrow tables, a bocce court, fire pits and stacks of blankets for cold nights. A gate opens straight onto the Lafitte Greenway, and fifty taps line the bar inside a tavern built like a barn. Food comes from whichever truck is parked, so order a beer and eat what the truck is serving.
Bayou Beer Garden · Mid-City
Gambit describes an early twentieth century Arts and Crafts house in Mid-City whose back deck and patio run more than 2,000 square feet, shaded by flowering plants and tropical greenery with a bar of its own. The paper counts misting stations, fountains and 80 beers on tap, plus a pool table and darts in the pub room inside. Order a beer at the back bar and take a table under the greenery. Ian McNulty later called it and the adjoining Bayou Wine Garden an entwined complex. It opens daily at noon.
