Achatz Handmade Pie Co. began in a home kitchen and now has shops across metro Detroit, including this one on 13 Mile Road in Beverly Hills, baking flaky, not-too-sweet crusts around fruit and cream fillings. The Michigan 4-Berry, with tart cherries, blackberries, blueberries and raspberries, comes double crust or under a crumb, and the Cherry Crumb, Michigan tart cherries under a brown sugar, cinnamon and oat crumble, took a blue ribbon at the National Pie Competition.
