Avoli Osteria on Underwood Avenue calls its onion soup Italian Onion Gratinato, though it has essentially the same ingredients and preparation as the French version. The bread is focaccia, cut to fit the bowl precisely, and it gives way into the soup as you eat, and there are so many onions, so much bread and so much creamy Fontina that the bowl could be a meal in itself.
