Fannie's West African Cuisine on Troost Avenue, opened by Fannie Gibson, who grew up in Liberia, serves traditional West African soups: egusi, cassava leaf, okra and a rich, nutty peanut butter soup, also known as groundnut soup, made with fresh tomato, onions, bell peppers, habanero and African spices. Order the peanut butter soup with goat, beef, chicken, shrimp or fish, and eat it with rice or with fufu, often made from plantain here, dipped into the soup by hand.
