Kapiolani Coffee Shop, an old-school diner in Waimalu Shopping Center, has a sign above its door calling it the home of the famous oxtail soup, and its menu dates the soup to 1949. The recipe is old: the shop first opened where the Hawaiʻi Convention Center now stands, became famous over the years for its oxtail soup, and moved into Kam Bowl in Kalihi before landing in ʻAiea.
