Giuseppe Sabino returned to New Haven in 1989 and opened a market with a partner before he and his family started Nica's on Orange Street in 2002, which Daily Nutmeg describes as a spot East Rock uses for groceries and for a meal. The New Haven Independent found Sabino still working seven days a week at 603 Orange St, coming in early to cut meat and put it in the display cases himself. Order from the meat counter, then build the rest at the deli.
