Hey Rhody asked wienie joint owners across Rhode Island who served the very first hot wiener and got the same answer every time: this Smith Street counter, which Augustus Pappas and his son Ernie opened in 1927. It closed and reopened on September 1, 2026 under new owner Peter Pimentel, who NBC 10 reports bought the business in large part to preserve the familiar experience, the closely guarded meat sauce recipe included. The hundredth anniversary is expected next year. Order wieners all the way with a coffee milk.
