Mountain Xpress covered the Vault taking the first WNC Battle of the Burger with a Hickory Nut Gap burger under Heritage Farms bacon, white cheddar, arugula and red onion in a homemade vinaigrette, plus spicy Duke's mayonnaise. WNC Magazine's own write-up of the same cook-off notes that while other entries leaned on plantains, quail eggs and bacon jam, this one won on a plain burger done properly. Order that burger, late if you like, since locals have long come here for it after hours.
