KQED. Oakland's only Haitian restaurant, from chef Frantz Felix, inside Swan's Market. The griot, fried pork shoulder, is a standout dish alongside braised oxtails.

The Infatuation (8.0). A Puerto Rican kitchen on Haight Street under a Puerto Rican flag and old family photos. Pernil asado, charred plantains and a sampler plate that covers the heavy hitters.

The Infatuation (8.2). A casual Peninsula spot off University Avenue built around the dark-meat jerk chicken combo plate with sweet plantains and red beans and rice.
