Cate Zone has served Dongbei cooking on Olive Boulevard since 2016. The menu includes crunchy sweet-and-sour pork, stir-fried noodles and crispy eggplant. Order the hot crisp fish, lightly battered and fried with Sichuan pepper and cayenne.
Noodle Story小面故事 · Delmar Loop
This Delmar Loop restaurant fills two stories of vintage brick with a subdued dining room. The chile oil chao shou are steamed pork wontons in roasted chili oil, black vinegar and garlic. Start with the beef in chili sauce, then order the wontons.
Soup Dumplings STL · University City
This University City counter serves beef, chicken, crab and pork xiaolongbao, six to an order. The small room has a menu behind the counter and prepared sides that have included soy sauce-braised lotus root. Order the pork dumplings.
Mai Lee · Brentwood
Lee Tran opened Mai Lee in 1985, first as a Chinese restaurant; Vietnamese dishes joined the menu about a year later. The Chinese side includes Dungeness crab with garlic and tamarind sauce and spare ribs in ginger sauce.
