Cafe Istanbul on Wyoming Boulevard NE runs a Turkish and Levantine grill alongside a grocery, and sells gyro meat by the pound. Gil Garduno rated it Very Good and named the gyros and shawarma among the best bets, with hummus he called to die for. Order a gyros plate and a side of hummus, and browse the Middle Eastern grocery on your way out.

Gourmet Doner Kebab is a food truck, usually parked on Zuni Road SE, where owner George carves beef and lamb, chicken, or a veggie mix off a vertical spit. Gil Garduno praised its freshness, the vegetables chopped and cut to size, served as a doner sandwich, wrap, salad, box, or tacos with housemade garlic aioli or hot sauce. Order the doner sandwich with beef and lamb, and add green chile.

Yasmine's Cafe on Central Avenue SE serves Mediterranean plates near UNM. Gil Garduno rated it Good and detailed a chicken shawarma of marinated boneless chicken, slow-roasted and thinly sliced over fluffy rice, plus a beef shawarma with hummus. Best bets include the chicken shawarma and the baba ganouj. Order the chicken shawarma, and ask for a side of sumac to season it.

Anatolia Mediterranean Grill opened in December 2025 on Jefferson Street NE, a Turkish kitchen Gil Garduno rated Outstanding. Its gyros and kebabs are built on freshly baked bread, and the iskender layers sliced spit-roasted meat over pita with hot tomato sauce, melted sheep's milk butter, and yogurt, a dish Gil calls a treat. Order the iskender or a gyro sandwich, and start with the lahmacun.
