French Broad Chocolate Lounge · Downtown Asheville
WNC Magazine describes owner Jael Rattigan stirring milk, cream and house-made chocolate ganache smooth, finished with vanilla and cinnamon, at this downtown Pack Square lounge. Mountain Xpress lists three ways the shop pours it: hot chocolate steamed with organic milk, a thicker liquid truffle made with half and half, and a chocolate sip of dark chocolate steamed with just enough water to turn liquid. Order the liquid truffle for the thickest version, or the hot chocolate for the lighter one.
The Chocolate Fetish · Downtown Asheville
Mountain Xpress singles out this Haywood Street truffle shop for European-style sipping chocolate made from chunks of rich dark chocolate melted into half and half, a thicker pour than a packet of cocoa. Our State separately names the shop among the chocolatiers it loves statewide, for its rounds, frogs, crunch bars and truffles. Order the sipping chocolate on its own, since that half-and-half base is what sets the cup apart from the shop's candy counter.
