The namesake roti, Trinidadian wraps stuffed with curried meats, anchor an enormous menu at this Dorchester counter. Choose goat, boneless chicken, or shrimp, turn up the heat with the house hot sauce, and cool it down with a fresh mango lassi. Portions are large and the doubles are worth adding.

A brisk counter service Jamaican spot in Mattapan known for mild curried chicken with a subtle coconut flavor, served over yellow or white rice with vegetables and, ideally, plantains. A D and G pineapple or cream soda completes the order, and the jerk and oxtail hold their own too.

This lively Roslindale Dominican spot builds mofongo, mashed and fried plantain or cassava, into a garlicky mound studded with crispy chicharron or other meats. There are more than a dozen mofongo variations on the menu, backed by cold beer and a loud, festive room that fills up on weekends.

A South End Puerto Rican restaurant in the Villa Victoria community, open since 2012. The chuleta kan kan, a towering fried pork chop, is the signature, backed by mofongo, arroz con gandules, and other island staples. The room is warm and family run, with a full bar of tropical drinks.

A Jamaica Plain counter staple since 1998, serving the Dominican Republic's take on a burger. The saucy chimi is piled with meat, crisp cabbage, and green tomatoes, drizzled in a ketchup mayo salsa golf, and packed onto a soft sub roll. It is a cheap, late leaning neighborhood favorite.
