Cincinnati Magazine says Peter Schuster opened Kantine on the ground floor of a converted apartment building in summer 2022, and that the menu reflects the blend of German, Swiss and Italian cultures in the southern region he grew up in, with nearly everything made from scratch using supplies from nearby Findlay Market. Order the wurstsalat, a chopped sausage, Swiss cheese, pickle and onion salad, or the pinsa, the airy Roman style pizza that has swept Germany.

Cincinnati Magazine reports that Queen City Radio asked Olaf Scheil to serve German street food in its biergarten, and that is where The Lübecker sits, named for his hometown on the northern coast. The garlic, lemon and herb aioli for the schnitzel sandwich is made from scratch, as are the sauerkraut and the currywurst sauce. Order the schnitzel sandwich. CityBeat describes the host bar as a former auto body shop whose garage doors open the patio to the street.

CityBeat says the Newport Hofbräuhaus was the first Hofbräuhaus brewery and beer hall to open in the United States, in 2003, brewing on site in the Munich tradition under licence from the Staatliches Hofbräuhaus and tapping a seasonal keg on the last Wednesday of each month. Order a giant soft pretzel and a liter, then take it to the gravel lined biergarten, which CityBeat says seats about 400. The hall runs year round; the gravel garden is a warm weather room.

CityBeat puts this Bavarian biergarten in the backyard of Kreimer's Bier Haus on the Great Miami River, with three decks, fire pits and Black Forest inspired woodwork running from picnic seating to a cuckoo clock styled German grill house. Cincinnati Refined calls the River Bar the restaurant's massive outdoor patio space on the riverbank, a spot for a drink and live music. Order the metts from the grill house, with sauerkraut balls, pretzel bread and bier cheese alongside. The decks are outdoor rooms, so the biergarten runs warm weather hours.
