Open since 1924, Gerstle’s brought chef Ken Barkley into the kitchen while keeping its century-old barroom feel. It is a place to settle in for a drink and a meal without losing the familiar neighborhood character.

High Horse reopened on East Market Street in June 2025 after leaving Butchertown. The new room keeps its basement-like retro decor, neighborhood-bar prices and casual feel, with a location in NuLu that makes it easy to drop in after dinner.

Sergio Ribenhoim keeps a large international beer collection in a Story Avenue room marked by flags rather than a prominent sign. The range extends well beyond standard taps, giving regulars and curious visitors plenty to explore.

This Charles Street corner bar dates to the 1930s. A deep international beer selection and patio with live jazz draw people in, while the dark, worn-in room still feels like a neighborhood gathering place.

Magnolia Bar has occupied its Old Louisville corner since 1962. The room has inexpensive drinks, a jukebox, live music and classic arcade games in back. It stays open late, with the worn-in feel that makes a neighborhood dive worth revisiting.
