Open since 1924, and owner Erik White brought in chef Ken Barkley to give the century old barroom a kitchen worth showing up for. Food & Dining profiled the shift in the fall of 2025. The bar itself has not been sanded down, which is the whole point: same room, better food, same regulars.

LEO readers picked it as their dive in 2024, and it reopened on East Market Street in June 2025 after leaving Butchertown. The room is styled like a 1970s basement and priced like a neighborhood bar, which is a harder combination to pull off in NuLu than it sounds.

Sergio Ribenhoim keeps roughly fifteen hundred bottles and forty five taps in a Story Avenue room with no sign on the door, just the street number and a row of international flags. LEO's write up notes there is more here than beer, but the beer is why people make the trip.

A corner bar on Charles Street dating to the 1930s, with a deep international beer list and a patio that hosts live jazz. LEO covered it among Germantown's craft beer rooms, though the appeal is as much the room as the list: dark, worn in, and entirely uninterested in being fashionable.

An Old Louisville fixture since 1962, open until four in the morning and known to everyone who drinks here simply as the Mag Bar. LEO's roundup of neighborhood dives gives it a place of honor. The jukebox, the cheap beer and the late hours have held the same crowd for sixty years.
