Taco Luchador · Highlands
LEO Weekly readers put Taco Luchador first in the 2024 Readers' Choice taco category, and LEO's own writers went straight to the No. 8 Baja fish taco, dressed with chipotle aioli, pickled cabbage and cilantro. There are rooms in St. Matthews, Jeffersontown and Colonial Gardens now, but the Baxter Avenue original in the Highlands is the one to go to.
Taco City Louisville · Highlands
LEO Weekly's writers went straight to the quesabirria: tender stewed meat, melted cheese, a tortilla crisped on the plancha, and a cup of consomé for dipping. Readers also placed it in the leading group of the 2024 Readers' Choice taco category. The Bardstown Road room is the one LEO names, and it is the one to go to.
Noche Mexican BBQ · Highlands
Robin Garr reviewed it for LEO Weekly at the corner of Bardstown Road and Roanoke, inside a converted church that Aaron Diaz opened in 2019. The dinner menu runs a half dozen tacos alongside burritos and fajitas, almost all of it between twelve and twenty dollars. West Texas smoker technique pointed at Mexican street food, which is the whole idea here.
Tacos GUERRA · South Louisville
A LEO Weekly writer drove out of the way for this one during the paper's taco week and came back for the asada, eaten with salsa verde. It is a truck, parked down on National Turnpike in the south end, and the hours move around more than a storefront's would. Check that the window is open before you make the trip.
FISTFUL OF TACOS Food Trucks & Catering · New Albany
LEO Weekly's taco week writers crossed the river for The Ugly: orange bourbon pork, citrus slaw, mango salsa and a chili crema. It started in 2016 as a truck at Harvest Homecoming and now runs a storefront on Paoli Pike in New Albany, with a real beer list attached. Still the Louisville metro, just on the Indiana side.
