Masa Luna · Little Bohemia
Tamales are the reason this Little Bohemia restaurant exists. The Funza reworks an Omaha bierock idea inside corn masa with beef, cheese and cabbage, then adds pickled onions, crema and cotija. The kitchen also makes a vegan chipotle squash version and a vegetarian spinach, corn and onion version. Order the Funza to see its local twist, or share it with a plant-based tamal to explore two directions from the same kitchen.
Aviles Latin Market · Millard
Behind the grocery shelves is a small kitchen making tamales alongside other Mexican food. The pork version has light, smooth masa, savory pork and green chile sauce, though the filling could be more generous. The back counter also offers dishes to take home and a few tables for eating in. This Q Street market works as both a lunch stop and a place to pick up ingredients.
