The Chapel Street second location of Mohamad Hafez's Syrian cafe, opened in January 2023 after the original Westville spot in 2020. Hafez, a Syrian-born artist and architect, brings the same home cooking downtown. Per CTbites, order the Pistachio Halloumi Panini and the falafel wraps, and finish with baklava or Turkish delight. It is a daytime cafe built on Syrian sweets and sandwiches rather than a full sit-down room.

- Bakeries
Pistachio Café works a Turkish and Syrian tradition, and CTbites' bakery guide points to its baklava, Turkish delights, and thick Turkish-style coffee. It is as much a coffeehouse as a bakery, a place to sit with a small plate of syrup-soaked pastry and a strong cup. Order an assortment of the baklava with a Turkish coffee, and take a box of Turkish delight home. The nut-forward, honey-heavy case sets it apart from the city's Italian shops.
