The riverfront candy store the Strickland family opened in 1973 and still runs, where free samples of pralines made from cream, sugar, butter and pecans are handed to customers coming in off River Street. Candy began here with two fudge pots the family bought that year, later reworked into the praline pots, some of them still in use, and the cases hold fudge, bear claws, saltwater taffy and gourmet popcorn beside the pralines. Order a praline, then a slab of fudge.
