Joan and Paul Watanabe opened Tanaka Saimin on Nimitz Highway in 2011 and named it for Joan's grandfather Kazuo Tanaka, who founded Boulevard Saimin, which her parents ran for 55 years. Many of Boulevard's employees and all of its recipes came over to the new room, so the order is the classic old-style saimin.
