Gina Rose Herlihy has baked out of Hope Artiste Village since spring 2020, and Rhode Island Monthly describes a counter of savory comfort food folded into flaky crust and sold in miniature sizes, plus full pies whole or by the slice. The selection changes daily and items sell out. Order the chicken pot pie, or the full size Mac Daddy, a baked mac and cheese crust layered with barbecue pork, collard greens, candied yams and crumbled cornbread.

Rhode Island Monthly calls Babes Pie Co. the newest stop on its Rhode Island pie map and credits co-owner Mar Keller with doing everything the hard way: a menu rewritten every month, crusts from scratch, par baked fruit fillings, and housemade custards, jams, caramels, brittles and infused whipped creams for the toppings. Pies come whole, by the slice or as hand pies, pre ordered for pickup at the Pawtucket kitchen. Order the brown butter apple, or the espresso custard pie with salted dark chocolate ganache.

Phantom Farms has sold baked goods and freshly picked apples in northern Rhode Island for the better part of seven decades, and Rhode Island Monthly makes it a morning stop rather than a pickup counter, with greenhouse seating and an outdoor deck. Order the Fruits of the Forest pie, or blueberry or apple, and add a banana nut muffin early because they sell out. In fall the cider runs through the doughnuts and the mulled drinks.

Missy LaPlante bought this East Bay bakery from the Balasco family, who had run it since 1935, after twenty five years working there, per Rhode Island Monthly. Blueberry, apple and cream pies are made daily and an order placed by 10 a.m. can be picked up the same day. Order the Key lime, which the magazine records as a summer seller, add a custard or a banana cream, and take home a box of Rhode Island pizza strips with hearty sauce and Romano.

Provencal Bakery is known for artisan bread, and Rhode Island Monthly makes the case for the pies too: apple, blueberry, cherry and mixed berry, pecan and pumpkin at the holidays, and chocolate, banana and coconut cream, built on locally grown fruit and high fat cream so the whipped cream holds. Most are special order, though fruit pies sit on display in summer. Order one of those, and take a cranberry pecan loaf on the way out.
