Press picks, until locals rank their own Top 5s. Sourced from the local food press. As seen in The Infatuation. Updated August 2026.

Tadich Grill · Financial District
The Infatuation. The oldest continually running restaurant in California. Crispy crab cakes doused in tartare sauce, a loaded cioppino, and a bar so long it's hard to see the end.
R & G Lounge · Chinatown
The Infatuation. A multi-story Cantonese seafood house in Chinatown running since 1985. The salt and pepper crab, lightly fried legs piled beneath the shell, is the signature.
Hog Island Oyster Co. · Embarcadero
The Infatuation. An oyster bar in the Ferry Building Marketplace with a waterfront patio for sweetwater oysters. The clam chowder is creamy and piled with whole clams and thick bacon. One of five or six Bay Area locations; this is the source-named site.
Anchor Oyster Bar · Castro
The Infatuation. An old-school Castro counter with a daily selection of oysters and enormous bowls of cioppino and creamy clam chowder.
Scoma's Restaurant · Fisherman's Wharf
The Infatuation. A Fisherman's Wharf institution in dark wood paneling and brown leather swivel chairs. The roasted Dungeness crab is the reason to come, bib recommended.
