District Winery · Navy Yard
DC's first full-production winery, a glass-walled facility on the Anacostia where the winemaker sources hand-harvested grapes from Sonoma, Long Island, and the Finger Lakes and produces around 20 wines a year on-site. Flights run $10 to $25 at the tasting bar, and the adjoining Ana restaurant serves wine-friendly New American plates like Maryland crab beignets.
Negus Winery · Alexandria
Believed to be the only tej (Ethiopian honey wine) tasting room in the country, run by winemaker Gize Negussie from his mother's recipe. Four steel tanks ferment honey and water for months into semi-sweet and semi-dry tej, poured alongside Virginia wines and injera crisps near the Van Dorn Street Metro.
The Urban Winery of Silver Spring
Inside the Beltway and billed as the DC area's first urban winery, producing over 30 wines on-site alongside Maryland craft beer, spirits, and an international by-the-glass list from small producers. Guests can book a tasting flight, settle in with a bottle and light fare, or take a hands-on class to blend their own batch.
