843 Korean BBQ & Sushi House is a tabletop Korean barbecue room on Rivers Avenue in North Charleston, where diners grill their own meat at the table. The kitchen rounds out the spread with banchan, soju and a sushi menu, run by sushi chef Myungjun Kim.

Charleston City Paper's Eric Doksa looked past the gas station front and found a small storefront between an Exxon and a Marco's Pizza, seven tables and a few bar stools at the window, with a menu that tours China and Korea. He names nang myun, kalbi and jobchae on the Korean side, and singles out tteokbokki, soft rice cakes and fish cakes in red chili sauce at a subtle heat. Order the jobchae and the tteokbokki.
Mama Kims · Upper King
Mama Kim's on Upper King Street makes its dishes from scratch, including beef bulgogi and bibimbap alongside spicy pork with kimchi and teriyaki chicken. Charleston City Paper calls it a staple everyone should try at least once, and it remains at the same King Street address today.
