Wan-Fu · South Charlotte
Under a pagoda roof at 10719 Kettering Drive since 1989, which makes it one of the longest-running Chinese kitchens in the city. The pineapple chicken is the dish it is known for, and the dining room still runs the kind of full menu families order across for a table of six on a Sunday.
Baoding Restaurant · SouthPark
A SouthPark fixture since 1993 at 4722 Sharon Road, where moo shu pork, sesame chicken and Beijing duck get a plated presentation rather than a takeout box. It has outlasted nearly every restaurant that opened around it, and the regulars have been coming long enough to order without opening the menu.
Sun's Kitchen 老孫家 · Lower South End
A ghost kitchen that grew into a full dining room at 3216 South Boulevard, cooking street food and homestyle plates that range from Beijing to Sichuan. The menu is long and unhedged, and the room fills with people who came for the cumin lamb and the hand-pulled noodles rather than a lunch special.
Taipei South · South Charlotte
A South Charlotte room at 10106 Johnston Road cooking Taiwanese dumplings, soup dumplings and wonton soup. When Axios asked readers where they actually eat Chinese food in Charlotte, this is the name that kept coming back, and the dumpling orders are what people wrote in about.
The Dumpling Lady - Nana Li's in Latta Arcade · Optimist Park
Zhang Qian brought her family from Chengdu to Charlotte in 2015 and built a Sichuan dumpling and noodle operation out of markets and pop-ups before landing a room at 1115 North Brevard Street. The dumplings come slicked in chili oil that does not apologize, and the dan dan noodles are the other order.
