Sugar Donuts · Ballantyne
Started in 2014 as Charlotte's first donut food truck and now anchored in a Ballantyne shop at 11914 Elm Lane. The pastry team spends roughly six hours per batch, the flavors rotate through the week, and there are vegan and gluten-free options for the people who normally get left out of a donut run.
MJ Donuts · Pineville
An old-school counter in Pineville Towne Market at 325 South Polk Street, doing what donut shops did before donut shops became a concept. The double chocolate cake donut and the apple fritters sell out early, so anyone who wants them shows up before the morning is half over.
Your Mom's Donuts- Park Road · Tyvola
Known for oversized square yeast donuts with flavors that rotate week to week, the salted caramel being the one Axios points to. The shop closed, changed hands and came back in 2023, and it now works out of a room on Tyvola Road with a couple of other outposts around the metro.
Suárez Bakery · Park Road
A scratch bakery with Cuban roots whose doughnuts sit in the case beside the pastelitos, the croquetas and the hand-iced cookies. It is not a donut shop, which is exactly why the donuts are worth the stop, and the coffee counter is set up to handle a proper morning order.
