Bluebird Bakery · Glendale
This bakery in Glendale's historic Village Square bakes scones and pastries, but pie is its specialty, in a long run of flavors: pumpkin and pumpkin crunchtop, pecan, cherry, triple berry, apple cranberry, chocolate cream and coconut cream. The apple pie comes under a crumb topping. Order the apple crumb, and a cream pie for the table.
Hyde's Restaurant · Hamilton
This Hamilton diner serves homemade food, and while the entrees draw people into its cozy booths, the pies have become its signature. The pie menu is a big one: cream pies in banana, butterscotch, chocolate, peanut butter and coconut, and apple, pumpkin, cherry and strawberry-rhubarb made either traditional style or as crumble pies. Order a slice of coconut cream or a strawberry-rhubarb crumble.
Heyday · East Walnut Hills
The owners of O Pie O run this burger spot in the old pie shop's space, and pie has stayed on the menu. The selection rotates, but the honey vinegar pie, an Ohio staple, leads the desserts: tangy, salty and sweet, landing somewhere between a custard pie and a cheesecake, in a crust like the one a seasoned elder brings to Thanksgiving dinner. Order a slice after a house burger and hand-cut fries.
