Buraka · Willy Street
The Wisconsin State Journal’s collection of the Madison restaurants its staff keep going back to files Buraka under global fare and calls it the only African restaurant in the city. The menu is East African, built on traditional Ethiopian cooking, and the paper points to the dorowot and to the vegetarian peanut stew. The Williamson Street room serves the stews over injera for sharing, so order across the menu rather than one plate each.
David's Jamaican Cuisine · Monona
Chris Lay’s Cap Times review finds David’s Jamaican Cuisine staying away from deep-fried items and concentrating on jerk seasoning and curries, with a menu friendly to vegetarians and plenty of tofu variations. Co-owner Pauline Blake freezes callaloo greens through the summer so the kitchen can carry them into the winter months when they are out of season. The Monona room has moved more than once; the jerk chicken and the plantains are what has not changed.
