Memphis, TNDonuts

Gibson's is a round the clock East Memphis donut shop with a broad case and a steady cross section of regulars. The glazed donut offers the cleanest look at the dough and fry, while maple bacon and other decorated choices push sweeter. Go early for maximum selection or late for the particular pleasure of a fresh donut when most bakeries are dark.

Midtown Donuts starts early on Union Avenue, supplying commuters and neighborhood regulars with a compact case of classic styles. The shop's family lineage connects it to Memphis donut history, but the experience remains immediate: warm glaze, soft dough, and quick counter service. Build a small assortment across raised and cake donuts, then eat the freshest pieces before they lose their delicate edges.

Donut Man's Austin Peay shop is an old school neighborhood bakery centered on early hours, a full display case, and quick service. Raised donuts, twists, filled options, and cake styles offer enough range for a mixed dozen. Start with a plain glazed piece while it is fresh, then move toward richer toppings and fillings rather than choosing every selection for decoration alone.

Jacques Louise Bakery makes a fried, yeast raised gluten free doughnut at its Cooper Street shop. The doughnut is sold on Saturdays and Sundays, and the bakery moved into this larger Midtown space in July. Order one fresh on the weekend to taste the texture that the owner says a baked or frozen gluten free version cannot reproduce.
