Union League · Downtown
A longtime anchor of French dining in New Haven, opened in 1993 in the 1884 Union League Club on Chapel Street by chef Jean-Pierre Vuillermet, a Maitre Cuisinier de France. CTbites marked its 25 years with the deviled chicken in Dijon, veal Milanese over house fettuccini, and tarte tatin. The New Haven Independent reports it is still an actively invested room, with 2025 renovations to the dining room and a wine cellar in the works under new ownership.
Bar Bouchée · Madison
A relaxed French bistro in Madison, out along the shoreline. CTbites, in its Connecticut desserts roundup, singles out the traditional French sweets that close the meal, a pistachio creme brulee and profiteroles. The name itself, bouchee, points to the small-plates bistro register the room works in. It sits toward the eastern edge of the New Haven metro, a straight shot down the shore for classic bistro cooking.
