The room remains straightforward and social, shaped more by its patrons than by a designed concept.

Squirrel Hill Cafe, often called the Squirrel Cage, keeps a dim and unvarnished presence on Forbes Avenue. Pittsburgh City Paper describes its affordable drinks, smoky atmosphere, and wings. The combination of booths, bar food, and neighborhood regulars makes it useful when a polished cocktail room is beside the point.
