Tori Tomo builds its ramen bowl to order on Washington Street, one of a small handful of restaurants in Providence taking the noodle seriously rather than leaning on the instant version most people know from college. It shares a creative team with Wara Wara and the newer Phed Phed, part of a loose family of Japanese kitchens around the city.

Pickerel keeps its noodles thin at Luongo Square, putting the real weight of the bowl on the broth, and each version on the menu is markedly different from the next. The kitchen has kept a loyal following since a 2023 review, with each broth built to stand on its own rather than following one house recipe.

Y Noodle and Bar runs a ramen and cocktail room on the West Side, best known for a spicy miso that a 2023 review called chicken soup with better self-esteem. Truffle-broth variations round out the menu, giving regulars a reason to come back for something other than the house classic.

Wara Wara pairs izakaya small plates with a full ramen menu on Hope Street, pushing past the sushi-only expectation most people bring to Japanese food. It shares a creative team with Tori Tomo and the newer Phed Phed, three restaurants from the same group spread across downtown and the East Side.

Sakuratani simmers its ramen broth for a full twenty-four hours in Bristol, about seventeen miles from downtown Providence, and diners can top the bowl with thinly sliced chashu pork. Yakitori skewers of zucchini, beef and okra round out the izakaya side of the menu alongside the noodle bar.
