Jamaican Patty Co. · South Campbell
Du'Sean and Latoya Howard, both from Jamaica, started this South Campbell shop as a cafe in January 2018 and told the Springfield Daily Citizen they wanted to bring a taste of their culture to Springfield. 417 Magazine describes the patties, handheld meat pies, as packed full of savory spices, generously and well seasoned without being hot. Order a beef or chicken curry patty, and on a weekend the oxtail or jerk chicken version, with a Ting to drink.
Mundos Latin Kitchen and Bar · Ozark
Victor and Sarah Briceno opened this Ozark room in December 2020 with dishes drawn from about thirteen Latin countries, and the Springfield Daily Citizen's Juliana Goodwin singles out the Caribbean end of the menu. The mofongo is fried plantains mashed with garlic and chicharron under grilled shrimp and a cheese sauce; the Cuban ropa vieja is brisket in tomato sauce with peppers, onions and green olives. 417 Magazine points to the tostones. Plantains run through nearly everything.
