IN Kansas City Magazine puts 18 apple varieties on the trees here and an apple season that runs July into November, with apple cider donuts, kettle corn and barbecue waiting once the picking is done. The Pitch writes that many make the trip across the orchard's 38 acres for the donuts alone, $6.50 for a half dozen or $10 for a full, soft and sugar dusted. The to go windows also sell cider slushies, apple pie nachos and apple egg rolls. Order a half dozen donuts and a cider slushie.

Kansas Living Magazine sends visitors to the line for apple cider donuts at this Johnson County farm and says the wait is worth it. Frank and Melanie Gieringer started the orchard outside Edgerton in 2001 and now run it with their son Brice, growing strawberries, peaches, blackberries, blueberries, apples and pumpkins for pick your own. IN Kansas City Magazine counts almost 20 apple varieties through September and October, beside a corn maze, a corn pit and sunflower fields. Order the cider donuts after the picking.
