Style Weekly walked the 8,500 square feet when this Scott's Addition beer hall opened, counting a soaring ceiling, community tables and high tops under a mural of the James River and the city skyline, then a patio and a rooftop bar fitted with permanent heaters and a drop down curtain for cold nights. Twenty four rotating taps pour at both bars. The Times-Dispatch rooftop guide points to seasonal brews and regular live music upstairs. Order a seasonal pour on the roof. Doors open at noon Friday through Sunday and at 4 p.m. on weekdays.
Ardent Craft Ales · Scott's Addition
The Times-Dispatch calls this Scott's Addition yard more than a patio, describing Ardent's beer garden as an open air outdoor brewery you can walk out of and straight on to the next stop. Style Weekly reported that the brewery bought the 1940s storage and warehouse building it had rented since opening in 2014, doubling its space, with co-owner Tom Sullivan saying the purchase signalled an intent to stay in the neighborhood long term. Order a beer and something to eat in the garden. Street parking thins out in the warm months, so walk in.
Legend Brewing Co · Manchester
Legend has brewed on this Manchester block since 1994, and Style Weekly calls it Richmond's oldest continuously operating craft brewery. The Times-Dispatch counts a 180 seat restaurant, a 200 seat deck and a small beer garden, quiet enough to talk in without the noise of a bigger yard. Vice president Dave Gott told Style Weekly in December 2024 that the brewery is not closing and plans to stay. Order a Legend Brown Ale or the Legend Lager on the deck, which looks out over the James River.
Bingo Beer Co · Scott's Addition
The Times-Dispatch puts a large outdoor patio and picnic tables behind this Scott's Addition brewery, then a pet friendly beer garden with fire pits and large umbrellas for partial shade in the warm months. The paper says the room is known for house beers, pizza and arcade games. Bingo's own pages call it a lager focused brewery grounded in European tradition, with skee-ball and Pac-Man inside. Order a lager and a pizza at a picnic table by the fire pits. Doors open at 4 p.m. midweek and noon on the weekend.
