No local rankings yet · editorial below
A Jamaican kitchen carrying a Michelin Bib Gourmand and a family-run Puerto Rican grill in Southtown, drawn from San Antonio Report, San Antonio Current and the San Antonio Business Journal. Another long-running Jamaican restaurant on Austin Highway has since closed, which is why this list is short.

The Jerk Shack · Far West Side
Nicola Blaque was born in Jamaica, served ten years in the Army and graduated from the Culinary Institute of America before opening a 600 square foot walk-up window off West Commerce Street in 2018. It now runs out of a 2,700 square foot room on the far West Side, where the Michelin man and the Bib Gourmand sit on the counter and framed clippings cover a wall. The menu turns on oxtail, chicken and shrimp; order the jerk chicken tacos with avocado creme and pineapple pico, then the bread pudding with rum caramel.
Luna Rosa | Puerto Rican Grill y Tapas · Southtown
A family-run Puerto Rican kitchen that started in the Brooks area in 2015, took over Rosario's old Southtown room, and has been at this South Alamo Street address since December 2025 under chef Iris Gonzales-Ornelas. The Current found the slow-cooked ropa vieja, braised in red wine with tomato, onion and bell pepper, succulent and well seasoned, and the chicken breast stuffed with sweet plantain and chorizo the same. Order the Cubanito, pork roast with ham and bacon pressed on brioche.
