Charleston City Paper's Becky Lacey traced this operation to a food truck Leonardo Frias started in 2015 at nineteen, after working in a Greek restaurant in Spartanburg, and reported it went stationary in 2019. She writes that the gyro comes with proteins like chicken, pork, shrimp and lamb, and that the menu runs to avgolomeno soup and dolmades alongside a lamb burger. Stella's runs an authentic Greek taverna on a Cannonborough corner of St. Philip Street, built around family recipes and a menu that stretches from gyros to grilled octopus, saganaki and a braised lamb shank served over noodles with a cinnamon-touched brown butter sauce. Charleston City Paper's Vanessa Wolf reviewed chef John Ondo's fast-casual Greek counter, where the lamb is slow-roasted and cut into tender chunks, simple and well-seasoned so the flavor of the meat shines through, and the pita is built from spreads and toppings rather than shaved rotisserie meat. Owner Panagiotis 'Pete' Kakaziotis, whose family ran a Pennsylvania diner for 17 years, stacks pork belly on a vertical spit for the gyro at this Mount Pleasant food trailer.
