Peggy Jean's Pies · South Columbia
Jeanne Plumley and her daughter relaunched this family bakery, which Plumley first ran with Peggy Day, and three generations of women now make its pies from scratch under golden lattice crusts. Flavors run from blue goose, caramel apple and banoffee to strawberry pop tart, many made half or fully sugar-free on request, with seasonal pies like pumpkin chiffon and butterscotch bourbon pecan. This entry is the Nifong Boulevard shop, one of two. Order the blueberry streusel.
Broadway Diner
This downtown diner added a pie bakery of its own in the summer of 2024, turning out whole 10-inch pies, among them a Jasper pie of blueberries in a sour cream custard. Order the Jasper pie.
