Kakawa Chocolate House · Near Railyard
A Santa Fe chocolatier best known for its ancient drinking chocolate elixirs and handcrafted chocolates, where the chocolatiers mix traditional chocolate recipes from the Americas with modern flavors; assorted truffles fill the case beside the sippable elixirs, and there is a shaded patio for sampling. It also makes small-batch ice creams year-round, among them a Spicy Aztec chocolate ice cream infused with New Mexico chiles. Order a drinking chocolate elixir and a few truffles.
Sweet Santa Fe · Downtown
A chocolate and confections shop on East Marcy Street that still makes many of longtime Santa Fe chocolatier C.G. Higgins's recipes. Its 30 flavors of truffles take 13 steps over two days, and the case also holds chocolate-dipped bacon, fudge, peanut brittle and caramel corn from a copper kettle, with four sipping chocolates; its truffles, chile bark and fudge have won Scovie Awards. Order a few truffles and the chocolate-dipped bacon.
Señor Murphy · Downtown Plaza
A jewel-box candy shop inside La Fonda on the Plaza, one of several Señor Murphy shops, stocked with New Mexico-inspired chocolates: bolitas, piñon clusters and tortugas, and a chile pistachio bark made with Alamogordo pistachios, beside shelves packed with lollipops and other sweets. Order the chile pistachio bark.
ChocolateSmith · Railyard
A chocolate shop on Cerrillos Road across from Railyard Park whose chocolates are made by hand. Its chile chocolates include the Sunset Orange and the Mucho Ancho, and there are chocolate barks and weatherproof backpacker's chocolates too. Order the Sunset Orange and the Mucho Ancho.
