Anna Miller's Restaurant · ʻAiea
Anna Miller's has held its corner at Pearlridge Center in ʻAiea since 1973, and since the pandemic it has run as a breakfast, lunch and pie shop with a case of lavish, fresh-baked pies. The fresh strawberry pie, unchanged since the 1970s, layers a mound of giant glazed whole strawberries over luscious custard with a ring of thick whipped cream; the towering full-size pies fill the case from late spring through summer, and miniature single-serving versions sell year-round. Order the fresh strawberry pie.
Hawaiian Pie Company · Kalihi
Hawaiian Pie Co. on Waiakamilo Road in Kalihi bakes fruit pies, many with crust on the top and the bottom, sweet but not too sweet and full of big chunks of fruit. Flavors include a Hawaiian passion pear and a caramel apple, which also comes frozen and ready to bake at home, and 4-inch mini pies make it easy to try several. Order the Hawaiian passion pear pie or the caramel apple.
Lee's Bakery & Kitchen · Chinatown
Lee's Bakery on North King Street in Chinatown is where the devoted line up every year for its famous custard pies, often still so warm from the oven that they need venting on the drive home. Order a custard pie.
Liliha Bakery · Liliha
The original Liliha Bakery on Kuakini Street sells pumpkin pies that can come home still warm and jiggly, when the pumpkin pie spices bloom the most. Order a pumpkin pie.
EPI-YA Boulangerie & Patisserie · Makiki
Epi-Ya Boulangerie & Patisserie on South Beretania Street in Makiki makes fuji apple and custard pies for pie purists: classic, buttery crusts with slightly sweetened fillings, often behind a line. Order the fuji apple pie or the custard pie.
